Locations Related to March 2, 1968 Ambush of Co C 4/9th Inf.
4/18/98 L. Mitchell
The general area is north of the village Ap Dong Hung which will be found in the upper
center of the graphic. The Saigon River is to the east. Highway 13 going north toward Loc
Ninh can be seen east of the Saigon River. Tan Son Nhut can be found in the lower left.
The scale on this map is 1:50000, and each grid block represents 1 kilometer.
A string of numbers from 79 to 91 will be found running from west to east in the upper half
of the map. These numbers are the first two digits of the east/west coordinate. The numbers
from 96 to 0 to 05 along the right hand side are the first two digits of the south/north
coordinate. The map from 96 to 0 is in the XS block while from 0 to 05 is in the XT block.
The third digit in each case will take you that number of tenths into the block. For instance
the looping street in Ap Dong Hung under the 84 would be at coordinate XT840025. The
beacon at Tan Son Nhut airport would be at XS809961.
For the most part, the coordinates were taken from the ambush report, so they should be
pretty accurate.
