In Memory of
Jonathan Cameron Shine
1LT Jonathan Cameron Shine was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action on October 15, 1970.
An inspirational article, "Six Generations", written by Colonel Barry Willey (USA, Ret.) about Jon's life and his dedication to Christianity and duty can be found at http://www.gospelcom.net/ocf/pubs/shine.php (website of the Officer's Christian Fellowship, OCF).
The "Jonathan C. Shine Memorial Award", traditionally a leather-bound Bible engraved with the recipient's name, is presented annually during the Protestant Baccalaureate service. The award is presented to the Cadet-in-Charge of the OCF at West Point. This cadet is chosen on the basis of his/her demonstrated capacity for Christian leadership and service within OCF and the Corps. Jon's contributions to the spiritual development of his contemporaries is reiterated annually in preparation for this award ceremony. Fort Shine, Spring Canyon Christian Camp and Conference Center in Colorado is named after him.
